Snoring Apnea: An Overview

Although people who snore are often targeted with lame jokes and middle-of-the-night poking and prodding by their sleeping partner, snoring is certainly nothing to laugh about.  At best, snoring is a problem that has been the culprit behind some divorce proceedings...

but loud snoring on a habitual basis may be the warning sign of a potentially fatal disorder: snoring apnea
(often referred to as sleep apnea or obstructive sleep apnea). 

Snoring Versus Snoring Apnea

It is important that a distinction is made between simple snoring and snoring apnea.  Lots of people snore; in fact, one in two people (or half of the population of the U.S.) will snore at some point in time during their lifetime.  While snoring in and of itself does not pose a health concern, loud snoring can certainly disrupt sleeping patterns and cause problems in any household.
